Throw away your cigarettes, and don’t buy any more. Also, don’t bum any off anyone.
Cold Turkey!! It’s the only way to go!

Well my dad just recently quit after being a heavy heavy smoker for the past 50 years. He used Chantix. Its a prescription drug.
Im going to try it soon myself. Ive been a heavy smoker for 20 years.
But you have to truly want to quit, to be able to quit.

The most successful quitters I know seem to use no aids at all and rely on will power. I’ve found that people who use patches, gum etc. seem to be very stop start.

There are also inhalators which are not so easy to find as gum and patches but you should ask your chemist for them. They are a little tube into which you insert a cartridge with a nicotine soaked foam. They are more like smoking a cigarette than anything else, so they can satisfy the other things that cigarettes do for us.
Other methods include Zyban (Bupropion), a mild antidepressant, and a fairly new drug – Chantix in the US – which modifies the receptors (I believe) which give us the pleasureable sensation.
There are also solutions based on hypnosis and acupuncture which help some people. Statistics show that people who use a support group with whatever nicotine replacement or other method have a better chance of giving up.

If in UK get your doctor to prescribe Champix capsules..If you really want to stop, they work.. Only available on prescription… In USA they are Chantix and I believe you have to pay for them. Hope this helps… They worked for me, I had smoked for 60 years.

Inhalator, lozenges, microtabs are alternative nicotine replacements.
Allen Carr book has helped a lot of people.
Try going into a local chemist (eg nearest Boots) they are running clinics where you can get nicotine replacements for price of presription. Plus they run support groups to help you through.

It is gonna take some time so allow yourself to grasp the fact that it ain’t gonna happen over nite. Ween yourself off of hanging around people who smoke. Train yourself to smoke less each day. If you know that you smoke 3 cigarettes a day then smoke 2 and fight the craving for the third. Whatever you do, don’t stress yourself about it because most likely you will end up smoking more than you are trying to stop. Realize that it is an addiction that you have to work on. Gradually you will learn to quit.

i quit 2 years ago just by being stubborn not to buy cigarettes as they are bloody expensive in the UK…
i smoked half a pack a day, wasn’t easier to quit as I did enjoy my ciggies, but went online to http://www.click2quit.co.uk and started an online calendar which for the 1st 3 months was telling me how much i saved and what are the benefits of every day giving up…it’s very motivating. try it
good luck

Chantix (by prescription) worked for me. Previous 40 plus
year smoker, 2-3 packs a day, tried to quit using "weaning"
programs through a hospital, hypnosis, gum, patches and
cold turkey through the years. With Chantix, have been smoke free for over 4 months with pretty much no craving(incidentally, I’ve been a "dry" alcoholic since 7/12/07,
not sure but think it’s another side effect), my doc says it
works with the pleasure center of the brain.(my
insurance has helped with the cost of the product)
(’course keepipng in mind extra $$$$$$$$ in the pocket wouldn’t hurt)

when i gave up before.. i just stopped totally..
first 3 days are tuff, I avoided people and slept a lot and if you avoid people, less stress.. I just slept a lot and watched films etc.
brushing your teeth is a trick some people use.. eating raw carrots or anything like fruit etc. you eat more due to having a bigger appetite.
I started smoking when I had hassle with the woman I was seeing, easy lapse, joke was the first one tasted disguisting.
I smoke now , but will try again in november when I have no stress and time to avoid people.
just keep trying most ppl won’t be successful their first attempt.

I tried everything…cold turkey, weaning, gum, etc. The only thing that worked for me was promising somebody that I loved that I would never smoke again. If you are a person of character, you won’t allow yourself to smoke again because you would be breaking your word.

My father was a smoker his entire life and try as i might i could never get him to stop. It made him very sick and eventually killed him, I found him and I have to live with that image the rest of my life. So when someone wants to quit smoking I always want to help. Have you tryed to go cold turkey? You will need somethng to suck on to keep your mouth busy, And your hands. You could also get a jar fill it about half wat with water and put you cig’s out in it! The sight of it will disgust you! Whats will be in that jar is what your putting in your body and lungs,Dirty toxins and poisens. I hope this help’s GOODLUCK!

Lessen the number of sticks you smoke every day. For example, you smoke five sticks a day. Lessen it to just four or three within the week, and then just smoke three or two next week. Then gradually stop smoking altogether.
I know it’s easier said than done, but do resist the tempations of lighting one stick more than the amount you’ve set for the day.
Don’t forget, you want to stop. Good luck!

put yourself around people who don’t smoke and simply despise it…that’s what worked for me! i only smoked for about a year when i started college. it was still hard to stop! but none of my friends smoked so that made it easier for me to avoid it. anytime i lit up, they would bash me for doing it. it is a disgusting habit…and i love my friends for reminding me of that any time i thought of lighting up.

I’m afraid there is no easy way to quit smoking. Whatever route you take there will be up & downs & a lot of miserable days at the beginning that you will hate everyone around you plus yourself. It’s one of the hardest things to do but it can be done if you have the will power.
Try the first week to cut back to 4 smokes a day. The next week have only one before you go to bed. This will help with not having so much nicotine in your system to withdraw from. Now your ready_you can do it_go cold turkey.
Usually cold turkey is the way to go. You have to do it one day at a time just like AA. The first 4 days are the hardest to get through. Every time you want a smoke go for a long walk till the urge is gone. Most people gain weight the first 6 months. I didn’t because I walked a lot to burn any extra calories off. If you do gain weight it is no excuse to start smoking again. Your weight will go back to normal in time.
Think positive_Think I only have to get through today.
After 3-4 weeks there will be hours that you will never even think of wanting a smoke. Then there will be days you will never think of wanting a smoke. Before you know it__you have gone without smoking for months.
You can do it. Good Luck !
