what is the best way to stop smoking?

February 26th, 2010

I have been smoking since I was like 16. I know. Bad. I quit for like a year & I was doing it like twice a day back then so it wasn’t like I was addicted. I was doing it to be "cool" or whatever. Now I’m trying really hard to stop. My husband & I have been trying to start a family for a year & I think it is affecting that. When I just flat out stop, I’m NOT a nice person & I have horrible mood swings. What is the best/easiest way to stop? Does that gum really work?

actually those "not a nice person moments" are legendary, those in support groups have a standing joke… "your allowed 3 homocides in your first 30 days".. most ofus do get a little frayed, after all, we are withdrawing from a very addictive substance.. a lot of have found, that while we may temporarily be a little short, it goes away.. actually the world and its people are a whole lot more forgiving, than we realize, especially in early withdrawl.. while nicotine replacemnet therepy, ie patches, gum, etc, might help with some of that, the fact remains, its just part of getting well… good luck!!!

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Has anyone read this book and quit? I have been smoking for 23 years and I read the book and quit smoking for 2 weeks….I was doing great…I have never quit that long before …EVER..I had a few drinks on Xmas Eve and my husband smokes and I had a puff and that was it….Now Im back at it and want to try again….It was so hard being around my husband…it didn’t bother me that other people smoked..just that he was lighting up by me all the time…but I told him too..that he didn’t have to change ..I did. He is now in the middle of the book…Should I re-read it? It truly worked the first time for a little while…I was drinking a little to much and I let my guard down…

Keep trying till you get it done. It means life style changes cause drinking is just as bad on the health. when you get the urge to smoke sing amazing grace till the urge passes,, it works

Alan Carr’s Easy Way To Stop Smoking?

I’m currently reading this but would like to know if anyone here has had any success from it or have any other suggestions that don’t include hypnotism or patches and gum.
Thanks :]

I have read the book and I stopped for about a couple of weeks, however a friend of mine stopped smoking after she read the book. I no longer smoke and I did not use patches or anything like that, I found smoking to hard to do as there is nowhere you can smoke. By the way for me the best reason for stopping is that I do not plan my day around a cigarette anymore. I can not give you any advise on how to stop smoking just that you must want to stop, for me the biggest problem when I first stopped smoking was the fear of been a non smoker for the rest of my life, that past after about a week. I think is mentioned that in the Book, however I can not remember. But if you continue been smoke free you will understand the freedom I am talking about and the freedom that could only be understood by ex smokers. Good luck.

ALLEN CARR’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking?

February 14th, 2010

My bf has been reading the book and is planning to have his last smoke 2day!
Any one out thr who has read it?Any success stories?or mishappenings?

Genuine interest please

Thank you!

Allen Carr’s stop smoking books are the best books to read to stop smoking. His "Only way to stop smoking" is a lot more detailed than his "easy way" books but all of them are very effective. I think Allen Carr books are the most cost effective way of stopping. If the book doesn’t work then think about seeing a hypnotherapist as that has been proven to be the most effective way of stopping long term. Don’t even think about using patches etc. They are not designed to help people to stop smoking, they are just a big con designed to make pharmaceutical companies even more money.

I just found out that I’m pregnant!!! What is the easiest way to stop smoking?

February 7th, 2010

I’m so excited to be expecting my first child, and I KNOW that I must stop smoking. Lately I’ve found myself smoking more than usual, what should I do? Cold turkey doesn’t seem to be the best choice for me…any suggestions

Quitting cold turkey isn’t always the best solution when you are pregnant, it can put a lot of stress on you and that is just as harmfull to the baby as smoking. My midwife told me to cut one cigarette out per week. So if I was smoking 15 per day then next week only smoke 14 until you can quit. Count them out each morning and limit yourself to only the ones you have set out that day. Also when a craving hits try eating a lolli-pop or a popcicle, or munch on some baby carrots or something to distract you to keep your mind off of it. Hope this helps and your are succesfull.

Anyone know N Easy way to stop smoking?

February 5th, 2010

have COPD, imperative i quit. any suggestions taken seriously

The Japanese have come up with an interesting solution which works for many smokers who want to quit – to suck on an ice block whenever you feel the urge to smoke. Although I myself don’t smoke, I think it’s worth a try. Carry ice blocks wherever you go in a cooler bag/box and suck on one whenever you want a cigarette.
